George Bauer guitar, Circa 1900

George Bauer was a Philadelphia luthier who made guitars and mandolins in the period around 1890-1910.  He was a contemporary of S.S. Stewart, and he formed a partnership with Stewart's sons after Stewart's death in 1898.  It is likely that the guitars and mandolins advertised by Stewart in the mid-1890's were actually made by Bauer.  This is a very nice guitar made of georgous rosewood, but the bridge is an oversized replacement.
