S.S. Stewart “Special Thoroughbred” 5-string banjo Circa 1895, S/N18366

This is a number 4 grade Stewart, the fanciest that could be routinely ordered.  Even higher grade instruments were made to order, and were called "presentation" instruments.  This is the only Stewart I have ever seen with pearl tuners.  They may not be original, although they have been seen on instruments from this period.
