Thompson & Odell 5-string banjo, S/N 1930, Circa 1890
This early Thompson & Odell banjo was made at a time when higher grade banjos were frequently offered with large numbers of brackets on the rim, the theory probably being that the head would be stretched more evenly with copious numbers of hooks pulling on the stretcher band. This banjo has 38 brackets, and interesting pearl and brass inlays on the peghead and fingerboard.
